Kelley Johns, MA, LPC
Understanding your story helps you discover who you are created to be and therefore live a more purposeful, fulfilling life. Both the beautiful and the hard parts of our own history can help shed light on our unique identities, our hopes and dreams, our fears and failures. By exploring these things, we uncover healing and direction for our lives.
However, it’s difficult to explore your story alone. That’s why I became a counselor — to help others understand their individual stories in order to experience healing and restoration. My hope is to create a safe place where we can walk towards healing together, to provide you with tools and strategies to empower you with confidence and stability as you move forward.
I received a BFA from the University of Colorado at Boulder and an MA in counseling from Colorado Christian University. Prior to joining the team at Light of the Rockies, I spent time doing trauma therapy at Medical Center of the Rockies, counseling at a local church, and in the private practice setting. I have a lot of experience with adolescents, young women, and the at-risk population.
While much of my training is based in the Christian faith, I welcome clients regardless of belief and background. My therapeutic approach integrates narrative therapy, CBT, EMDR, play therapy, communication, and identity work. Together, we’ll decide on a treatment approach based on your individual needs, current struggles, and your personal story and goals.
My areas of concentration include:
- Adolescent/young adult issues
- Women’s issues
- Identity exploration
- Anxiety and depression
- Life transitions
- Grief and loss
- Pornography and intimacy
- Relationship and marital counseling
- PTSD/Crisis/Trauma (utilizing EMDR, if desired)
